2014 DATES ANNOUNCED FOR WOMEN ONLY TRACK DAYS AT SILVERSTONE HOSTED BY MARIA COSTELLO MBE

Maria Costello MBE is delighted to announce two new dates in 2014 for her women only track days. Silverstone will once more host the events for women riders on 10 April and 9 September 2014 and bookings are being taken now:

“I couldn’t have been more pleased with how the first Silverstone women only track day, that I hosted back in October, was received. I was overwhelmed by the positive feedback from both the circuit and all who attended. So it’s great to announce two new dates for 2014 and give another two opportunities to those that missed the chance to come along. I also hope to see some of the same faces again too. The events are now available online and can be booked now!” explained Costello.

The events have been made available following the success of the first ever Ladies only track days held earlier this year and are aimed at allowing like-minded women a track-based experience in a relaxed, controlled and all female environment:

“My Woman on a Motorcycle (WOAM) Facebook group has grown rapidly in recent months and it’s a great sounding board to see what women really want. The recurring theme appears to be the chance to take to the track and improve their riding skills in a controlled environment with instruction from yours truly. Not all women are comfortable with a traditional style track day, as some find it intimidating, so holding women only days means those ladies have an opportunity to do something that they wouldn’t otherwise have tried. Anything that helps women get out on their bikes can only be good for motorcycling in general, so I’m looking forward to these opportunities for me and my team to provide guidance and tuition, both on and off the track.” added Maria.

Maria Costello MBE is offering her Woman On A Motorcycle Facebook group members the opportunity to get a Vintage make-over by the amazing people at the Vintage Hair Lounge.

Maria has been fortunate to have the Vintage Hair Lounge at her disposal for the past two years at The Goodwood Revival, an event set in the 1950s and 60s, where looking the part and having a period hairstyle is essential. Now she has the opportunity to offer this amazing experience to her Facebook group of women bikers.

The Vintage Hair Lounge are looking for models to sit for their Vintage Hairstyling For Camera course in Milton Keynes on 18 November. Not only will the models get pampered and taken back in time with a new and retro hairstyle, but it will also be captured by top photographer Scott Chalmers.

Maria commented: “I’ve been so lucky to enjoy vintage styling by the Vintage Hair Lounge at the Revival over the past two years. They are an amazing team of hair stylists and I’ve been trying to think of a way to offer this to others and this is the perfect opportunity; plus it’s free! To top it all, Scott Chalmers will be capturing the experience and I’m sure that all who attend will treasure the pictures he takes, just like I do!”

The courses are laid on by the Vintage Hair Lounge, under the watchful eyes of Gloria and Sharon Holloway who look after the technical training and historical training respectively. Sharon, a media hair and make-up designer added: ”We are always after a variety of models for our students Vintage Hairstyling For Camera courses and Maria and her girls fit the bill perfectly. In addition to the hairstyling, we will have make-up artist support on the day and we’re looking forward to turning the girls into camera ready models, to suit the era that their hair has been styled in.”

The Milton Keynes course will be taking place at The Joseph's Experience, 3 The Courtyard, Brooklands Farm, Newport Road, Broughton, Milton Keynes, MK16 0HU http://www.josephs-experience.co.uk/, with two sessions operating from 10am until 1pm and 2pm until 5pm.

WOMEN-ONLY TRACK DAY - LIMITED PLACES BOOK NOW!

A women-only track day is set for Teesside Autodrome on the 30^th September, headed up by Maria Costello MBE.

The Northamptonshire based motorcycle racer and former TT lap record and Guinness World record holder has new ambitions, but this time they revolve around helping and supporting women bikers. Her first women-only 'Woman on a Motorcycle' track day is a reality, with the date booked for 30 women to receive her tuition at the Teesside Autodrome on Monday 30^th September.

The idea behind her ‘Woman on a Motorcycle’ project or association, she hasn’t labelled it yet, is to encourage more women to take up motorcycling and for those already on two wheels to become more skilled, confident and empowered bikers.

Plans to run slow-speed courses, touring and social meets are also in the pipeline and the aim is to build a dedicated website where she can offer help, advice, training courses, touring and track day events as well as news, products and a place to exchange stories and advice between members. This first, limited number, track day will be structured to provide each woman with the chance to be on track with Costello. Classroom sessions will offer track riding and bike control advice and tips, while there will be bike set-up advice throughout the day.

Maria Costello MBE has been competing on a vast array of motorcycles for almost 20 years. Her career has included the Isle of Man TT, Irish road racing, British Superstock, the CB500 Cup Challenge, South African circuit racing and the Daytona banked circuit, but now she wants to turn her attention to helping other female bikers.

Costello said: ‘I get a lot of messages on Facebook, Twitter and via email and this group felt like a natural progression from that to provide a place where I can offer help and support. I’ve realised that I can use my knowledge and experience to help other women start biking or become more empowered on two wheels and it’s my dream to set up a women riders association or something of that ilk in the near future. This track day will be my first event to kick start this whole idea off.’

Since receiving an MBE for services to motorcycling and publishing her autobiography ‘Queen of Bikers’ she has wanted to do more to give something back to the sport.

‘I’ve been fortunate to do a lot of fantastic motorcycle related stuff in my life and I want others to be able to do the same and enjoy their time on two wheels. It’s time to give something back,' she added.

IDP Moto Ltd offer their mechanical advice at WOAM Official WSBK meet up at Silverstone.

For our WOAM WSBK meet up at Silverstone this Saturday - 3rd August - I’ve decided to team up with IDP Moto Ltd based at Silverstone to give you something a little extra in the form of some bike maintenance and set-up advice.

IDP Moto Ltd is the workshop that looks after my pride and joy, pizza race bike, Kawasaki ER6 Supertwin and you’ll be able to get up close and personal with the bike I rode to a 16^th place finish at the TT as I’ll be displaying at the workshop for this meet up!

But that’s not the ‘little extra’. Workshop manager and owner of IDP Moto, Daryll Young, will be on hand to talk about basic maintenance and bike set-up, plus a representative of Dunlop will be on hand to talk tyres.

It’s an opportunity not to be missed, especially as it ties in nicely with the WSBK races.

WOAM Association

Woman On A Motorcycle is a group I set up on Facebook as a place where women motorcyclists can connect with each other and share advice, stories and events and become empowered on two wheels.

It's part of a new project that I'm heading up, to provide an association for women riders who want to participate in women only training and events and although Facebook is popular I realise that not ever female biker is on Facebook so until my dedicated WOAM Association website is completed I have set up this blog for those of you outside of FB.

So I'll be posting news of forthcoming events and meet-ups here and for those of you wanting to be added to the WOAM mailing list please drop me a line and include your name, address, motorcycle and biking experience to woam@costelloracing.com
